PolyData Update: PolyData (Data Warehouse) Server Migration Project 10/27/10

The Data Warehouse support team is currently working on a project to upgrade the hardware used to host the PolyData databases. Our scheduled migration to the new servers will take place in the next two months beginning in early November:

  • Test environment:: Wednesday, 11/3/10 - Friday, 11/5/10 (tentative)
  • Production environment: Friday, 12/3/10 - Sunday, 12/5/10

As a result of this migration project, you may need to take action to modify the way you connect to the PolyData databases. Please follow EITHER of these steps to ensure continued access to the PolyData (Data Warehouse) database servers:

  • Convert your application to use the ITS TNS Names Service (ITS recommendation)
    - OR -
  • Confirm that your local TNSNAMES.ORA file is using the correct host parameter
    • Production: HOST = dwprddb.db.calpoly.edu
    • Test: HOST = dwtstdb.db.calpoly.edu

Once we have completed the migration in the test environment, we will contact you again to begin your testing. If you have any questions about the Oracle client configuration, please contact the ITS DBA Support Team. For general project questions, please contact PolyData.
